Speedmeet Walcheren

Have you ever been to a 'speedmeet' or 'speeddate' for job seekers?   These meetings are regularly organized by Municipalities or the UWV. The aim is to bring job seekers into contact with employers in a short period of time.

HR staff and recruiters from large companies and employment agencies are often present at these meetings. They have short one-on-one conversations with visitors and sometimes make a follow-up appointment for a longer conversation.

Are you that born networker with the accompanying smooth chat? Then you may step uninhibited, whistling over the threshold.   If you do not recognize yourself in this description, we have a few tips for you.

  • See it as an opportunity! Een personal introduction has much more impact with recruiters. You don't have to struggle for a job interview, you already start with a head start.
  • To maintain that lead: pay attention to your appearance. Een neat appearance is decisive for a good first impression.
  • Your appearance goes beyond your appearance. Een firm hand (don't exaggerate), an open mind, greeting people, these are the things you put yourself down well with.
  • Do you have a resume?   Then take it with you. Don't have it? Then maybe you can bring a card with your details, like a kind of abbreviated resume, so you can leave something behind and make it easier to get in touch. Sometimes you fill in a form with information on the spot.
  • Do you have to wait?   are often opportunities to search for or view vacancies. Do that too, even if you've read them all ten times already, you're sending a positive signal!
  • Prepare well. You are short on time, but what is your story in short?   What do you want to mention in any case?   You can put some keywords on paper beforehand to get your 'pitch' right in your head.
  • Are you someone who doesn't quite know what he wants? Are you actually prepared to tackle everything?   You can of course mention that, but applying focus is also good. Then tell what you did for work before, what you liked about it, what you often received compliments about from your manager, etc. Be specific where possible.
  • Is the conversation over?   Take matters into your own hands and ask what the next step will be. If a recruiter remains reluctant, just ask if they see opportunities for you, if not now, maybe in the longer term.
