Your salary payment and the holidays

Friday 20 December 2019

The holidays are just around the corner! Whether you are free or have to work; the holidays have consequences for your salary payment. You can read what those are here.

When will your salary be paid?

You will receive your salary from week 52, which is the week of Christmas, one week later on Tuesday, as always. That is on New Year's Eve, Tuesday 31 December. Did you not work over Christmas, but are you entitled to continued payment of public holiday hours? Then you will receive those hours on your account on 2 January. You will also receive your salary from week 1, which is the week of New Year's Day, one week later on Tuesday, as always. That is on Tuesday, January 7.

You can read below whether you are entitled to continued payment of public holidays.

Are you entitled to continued payment of public holidays?

The rules on this will change as of December 30, 2019. This is when the new collective labor agreement for temporary workers will come into effect. A different arrangement applies for the upcoming Christmas than for New Year's Day.

Christmas
Christmas falls on Wednesday and Thursday this year. Are you obligated to be free? If these days are your regular working days, you are entitled to continued payment. For this, we look back thirteen weeks. Did you always work on that day in those thirteen weeks? Then you just get paid.

New Years Day
If it is not clear from your contract whether the day on which New Year's Day falls (Wednesday) is a working day for you, you will continue to be paid if you have worked at least seven times on Wednesday in the thirteen weeks prior to New Year's Day.
This is the new, more favorable arrangement that applies to public holidays from 1 January 2020.
