Apply as an All Star with LinkedIn

15 March 2018 -

Don't have a LinkedIn profile yet? Then quickly create one. Een LinkedIn profile is an excellent way to find your dream job and apply right away. Before applying for a job with LinkedIn, make sure you have an All Star (very knowledgeable) profile. With an All Star badge you have a better chance of a job offer via LinkedIn.

To earn an All Star badge, your profile must be completed and provided with photos. Don't worry! We will not leave you to your fate and are happy to provide you with a handy step-by-step plan to get your All Star badge - and ultimately that dream job! Let's get started.

Create LinkedIn account

Step 1: upload photos

Profile picture
Provide a professional, recent and clear photo of yourself. LinkedIn profiles with a professional photo are 30% more visited. With a good photo you have a better chance of landing your dream job. Don't have a professional photo? Then make one yourself: choose a smooth background for the photo, put on your smart clothes and look into the camera with a smile. Make sure that you are a professional and that you do not use nice Facebook photos with your kids, friends or pets for your LinkedIn.

Professional profile picture

There are of course exceptions. Is your ultimate dream job, for example, a dog groomer or a dog trainer? Then a photo with a cute puppy can make you more likely to get that job.

Image header
Choose a suitable, calm header for your profile. This can be something of your own work or a photo that has something to do with your profession. Of course you can also just choose a color or another smooth background - as long as it doesn't distract too much from the rest of your profile.

Step 2: Complete your introduction

Professional headline/headline
Complete the intro completely; so your name, surname, location, etc. The introduction also includes your professional headline (headline) and that is quite important. Your profile picture along with the headline is the first thing people see when they find your LinkedIn profile. In the header you can therefore indicate that you are looking for your dream job, for example 'Available for a new challenge as a secretary!' or 'Looking for a new challenge in graphic design'. Make sure to use the words that are important and relevant to your new dream job. That way you will be found better in Google.

Resume
The summary is also important for an All Star badge. Here you can just say something about yourself. Suppose you are on a job interview and they ask you if you want to tell us something about yourself and why you are suitable for this position. What you would then tell, you can type as a short and powerful story in the summary. Think about: why you are suitable, what your experience is and what you excel at.

Step 3: work experience and education

Complete the rest of your profile as well as possible. Don't skip anything or you'll never reach your All Star badge.

Work experience
Only list your relevant work experience and avoid long lists. Your newspaper route job does not have to be done, unless it has added value for your new employer. Be selective about this and make sure you list at least three positions. By the way, you won't get there by just entering the position and company name. Also describe the work in which you have distinguished yourself, which skills you have developed and what you have learned from your previous employers.

Education
Indicate what training and/or courses you have followed.

Please note that you must indicate a 'current position' - even if you are a job seeker or student - in order to obtain an All Star badge. Your 'current position' can therefore be a student or a job seeker.

Step 4: Skills

To get an All Star badge, you need to add at least five skills to your LinkedIn profile. Think of: Excel or carpentry. Once you've added your skills, others can endorse it. So feel free to ask others if they want to endorse your skills or write a recommendation on your LinkedIn profile.

Step 5: Connect!

Now that you have set up a LinkedIn profile, you are ready to build your network by making connections. Start adding people you know. In principle, this works almost the same as on Facebook or other similar social media channels. Don't hesitate to send an invitation to unknown people who you think can add value to your network, that's what LinkedIn is for. Please note that you need at least 50 connections for an All Star badge.

Networking

Extra tip: On LinkedIn it is possible to set the language yourself. Do you prefer Dutch or English? Then go to your LinkedIn profile and click on your photo in the menu at the top. A drop down menu will then appear. At 'ACCOUNT' you can then choose the language and change it at any time.
