Do you have more than one job?

27 February 2019 - Silvie van den Berg

If you have several jobs at the same time or several jobs in a year, you should pay close attention when filling out your payroll tax statement. On your payroll tax statement, you indicate whether the payroll tax credit may be applied. If you do not fill this in correctly, you may pay too much or too little tax.

Several jobs in succession

When you work, wage tax is withheld from your gross salary, among other things. This is called payroll tax. If you work, you are entitled to a payroll tax credit. You can see this as a discount that you receive on the wage tax that is withheld. This payroll tax credit can only be applied to one employer at a time.   You can see how much wage tax has been withheld on your annual statement. You can find it under 'loonbelasting' or 'loonbelasting'. If you have had several jobs in succession in one year, your tax return will look at what you have earned in total and what has been deducted in total in wage tax. It is also checked whether something still needs to be 'corrected', whether you are entitled to a refund, or - and that is always more annoying - if you still have to pay something back.

Several jobs at the same time

If you have multiple employers, you have to pay attention.   If the payroll tax credit is applied to several employers, you pay too little tax. You must then repay this amount afterwards. Therefore, make sure that this discount is only applied to one employer. Then do this at the employer where you earn the most, then you will benefit the most from the discount. Even if your income is temporarily supplemented with a benefit, you can only have the payroll tax credit applied to one income.

If you make a mistake about this, you could be in for some nasty surprises. Are you unsure whether you are doing well?     If you work via Actief Werkt! , your contact person can advise you further about this.
