Een Great Place To Work for Nick Zuidema

27 February 2024 - Hanne van Kuik

30 years. Living in Amersfoort . And with its 2 meters a striking appearance. In his spare time you can find him mountain biking, running or working out at the gym. And play games with friends. That's Nick Zuidema in short. He talks about his career at Actief Werkt! , but also what makes this place a Great Place to Work for him.

A flying start…

In 2016, Nick started as a project manager within the painting industry in Groningen . What he remembers most from that time is working towards complete mastery of the profession. by this he means all facets of broadcasting. Including obtaining his SEU certificate, but also guiding painters in training from A to Z.

Steps within Actief Werkt!

After working as a project manager for three years, Nick was ready for the next step. He opened the branch in Amersfoort , with the idea of also filling the technical vacancies in the center of Nederland . “We have a number of large, nationally operating clients where we can supply more local people. There are now five of us there and we currently have four branches active there: construction, painting, installation and metal.”

“If you want to make progress, you have to show that you can handle that responsibility. If you have ambitions, you must make them known to your manager. You can't always take a step right away. But it starts with indicating where you want to grow.”

The success factor according to Nick

“Be persistent. Don't let the first setback slow you down. If you finally succeed, you will get a lot of satisfaction from it. As an example: we opened the branch in Amersfoort during corona time. That did not go well. You want to get started with your marketing, but you're not allowed to go anywhere. With the current team we are well on our way to being a serious player locally in supplying technical personnel.”

A Great Place to Work: Entrepreneurial Freedom

“It's a combination of factors. On the one hand, the freedom I have in my work to determine what focus you apply. Entrepreneurial freedom is something that is often mentioned but is not very visible until you work somewhere else where you are much more tied to a certain to-do list. With us you can make that list yourself.”

The only thing Nick longs for is...

“A company outing to the slopes! And we can collaborate more between the labels to put even more people to work. Unknown makes unloved. That could be more integrated. But the structure is good and the vision and mission are very clear.”

Nick's personal goals

“Making my future new role of IHS regional manager my own and seeing what it will bring me. I see it as a completely new job, because the business and colleagues are completely different. From a team of men to a team of women. I'm curious!"

His ultimate tip for new Active people!

"On time to bed ???? And also be open-minded and ask lots of questions. Listening well is even more important. Be curious about what is possible. Don't wait for opportunities, create them.”
