Gone are the days of resolutions: set business goals

2 February 2021 -

Still making a half-baked attempt to realize your New Year's resolutions? wake up! Intentions are a thing of the past; it's time to set real goals. We would like to inspire you with a number of professional goals for the coming year, so that you can enjoy your work even more.

Color outside the lines

When people lose the joy of their work, it is often due to their own daily routine. Carrying out the same tasks day in and day out is exhausting. Fortunately, by making relatively small changes to your daily work pattern, you can quickly see your job in a different light.

For example, sit somewhere else, write with different colored pens, listen to different music or collaborate more often with others. The way in which you can approach this naturally differs per function. We can, however, give you a tip to take a look at the working method of a direct colleague. Who knows, you may be able to gain innovative ideas that will surprise you even yourself. Dare to innovate!

Business Goals

Address weaknesses

Everyone has weaknesses. And although you know them best yourself, it sometimes proves difficult to tackle them. Sure, some aspects are just part of your personality, but that doesn't have to be an excuse not to work on them. So ask your colleagues what they think you can do even better.

Could you be a little more accurate? Are you not good at feedback? Or is it smart to brush up on your communication skills with customers? The first step is to look in the mirror, but the second step is to actually do something with it. For example, write down whether you are making progress and later ask colleagues what they think about this. You might think it's crazy to ask them this, but in this way you challenge yourself to become better at your profession and as a person.

Raise the bar

Reaching the top in your current position could lead to boredom. And that's obviously the last thing you want. In many cases, however, you are responsible for raising the bar yourself. How you seek additional challenge is entirely up to you. Here are a few options:

  • Do your best to level up and gain additional responsibilities

  • Broaden and deepen your knowledge with a new course or training

  • Request new work from your manager

  • Look for a more challenging position (possibly within another company)

Do you choose the latter option and are you looking for a new position? Or do you just want to scour some vacancy texts to broaden your horizons? Then take a look at the vacancy page of Actief Werkt! for a good dose of challenge.
