Make your work more fun with these 6 tips!

17 August 2018 -

It is a fact that you spend a large part of your life at work. In fact, the state pension age will increase to 67 years and three months in 2022. This is because the quality of life continues to improve, leading to an increase in life expectancy. Super nice! The result is that the state pension age also rises nicely. So we also have to work longer. Wondering how long you still have to work until you retire?

You probably still have a while to go. Then you better make your work more fun, right? With these six tips you will enjoy going to work much more:

1. Be kind

Being nice costs you nothing, so why not give it a try? Een kind gesture can make a world of difference. Being friendly is contagious. If you help your colleague selflessly or just get a cup of coffee, he or she may give something nice in return. With friendly gestures you increase the gun factor and your colleagues will like you much more. In addition, it not only makes others feel good, but it also gives you a good feeling when someone thanks you, for example, if you hold the door open for them. Do you want to make the atmosphere at work more pleasant? Then start with yourself.

2. The glass is half full

It is often stressful at work and you always have a few negative colleagues who can become   grumpy under pressure. Everyone has a bad day every now and then. Try to remain optimistic in all cases. It saves you stress and is not at the expense of your health when you look at things positively. Going into a negative spiral really doesn't make your work more fun, so why should you?

3. Enjoy the little things

Do you find it difficult to always look at your work positively? Then think of some things that you are grateful for and that make you happy. Because of your work you may be able to book that one nice holiday or go out for dinner. Perhaps it is your colleague who is always ready to help you or with whom you can have a good conversation. Or is it a nice view from your workplace. Stick to the bright spots at work, because they will make you a lot more positive. Don't pay attention to negativity.

4. Provide variety

A rut never made anyone happy. Ask your manager about other activities that you can do in between to keep your work challenging and varied. Challenge in your work is good for your happiness and motivation. Step out of your comfort zone and dare to change. Ultimately this will give you satisfaction. It's simple: when you experience a sense of contentment, you become happier.

5. Change your lunch break

It's also in the little things like your lunch break. Do you always eat in the canteen or at your workplace? Go crazy and take a walk during the break. You recharge from that and you will notice that you become much more productive. Or, in consultation with your manager, take a longer break and work a little longer, because then you can also eat somewhere else.

6. Brighten up your workplace

Do you have a fixed workplace? Then you have an opportunity to make something fun out of it. Would you like to feel a little more at home? Then put down a photo frame of your family or family. Or set your vacation photo as your desktop when you're working behind a computer. You can also put down some plants or order nice desk accessories to pimp your workplace. You can see your workplace as your second home, make it pleasant for yourself in consultation with your boss. Make sure you don't make it too bright, so that it doesn't bother anyone. †
