Safely from A(ctief) to B

2 January 2024 - Carin van den Bliek

Our flex workers are on their way to and from work every day. By public transport, bicycle, scooter or car. Unfortunately, traffic accidents are the most common accidents reported. In particular collisions or falls with the bicycle. Of course we want to prevent that! You can read tips for traveling safely in winter conditions (in the dark, rain, fog and snow) here:

CAR

  • Driving in the dark requires more concentration than driving in daylight. Make sure your windows are clean and let your eyes get used to the dark before you start the car.
  • A car that is too hot will make you drowsy. Especially if you peer into the dark during your ride. So don't set the heating too high.
  • Do you suffer from a mild form of night blindness ? Een yellow glasses specifically intended for this purpose can help. The yellow lenses clarify vision and reduce glare and reflections.
  • Adjust your speed and keep enough distance .
  • Good tires are extremely important. The more tread depth, the less chance of aquaplaning
  • During the rain the windows fog up quickly. Especially if you get into the car with wet clothes and an umbrella. Turn on the air conditioning or heater and point the blowers at the windows.

BIKE/SCOOTER

  • Make sure you have good front and rear lights. If necessary, make yourself even more visible with a reflective vest or band around your arm or extra lighting.
  • Check your tires for sufficient tread. The more profile the better the grip.
  • Check your brake pads regularly and grease your brake and shift cables.
  • Are you unsure whether it is too slippery ? Then drive a lot more slowly than you normally do. If you slip, you will fall a lot less hard. Moreover, it ensures that you have more time to scan traffic and the surroundings.

We think it is important that you move safely from A to B. Do you work through or at Actief Werkt ? Then report your traffic accident to your contact person at Actief Werkt!
