Garbage Woman Joy
23-year-old Joy Vuuren is a hard-working garbage collector at Cyclus. Cyclus is a waste collection company in the region Gouda . Joy has been collecting the containers along the streets in the Groene Hart for about six months now. She gets a lot of questions from people on the street about whether the work is not too hard. She herself indicates that she does not think so and that she really enjoys doing it. Fortunately, there are also many people who give a thumbs up and say: cool!
Earlier this year, Joy completed an MBO course in Legal Services. She wanted to move on to higher education to become a lawyer. In addition to her studies, she worked as a cleaner at Cyclus. She liked this much more than her education. She therefore decided to stop the training and focus on her work at Cyclus.
Big dream
In addition to her work, Joy is now taking driving lessons to make her big dream come true. She wants to get her truck driver's license. She started at cycle as a cleaner and is now a loader, but wants to become a driver of a large garbage truck. What appeals to her about that? “The freedom and the fun. You are out all day with a few colleagues. You see a lot, you come to many places in the Green Heart. I already have that with my current job as a loader, but I think it would be fun to drive such a large garbage truck myself.” Joy says. Outside of work and driving lessons, she is the mother of a 3-year-old son. So she lives in a man's world, where she can hold her own. Once she has passed her driving licence, she wants to remain a garbage truck driver for the time being. However, this is not her ultimate goal, because she wants to develop within Cycle. “Maybe I will become a coordinator, but I need to get my driving license first!”
