The digital signature

18 December 2018 - Cato van Vliet

Now that everything is digitized, the signature also follows. You have a digital (electronic) signature. But what exactly does that mean? And what should you pay attention to?

What is a digital signature?

A digital signature is an electronic version of a handwritten signature. This signature consists of data that is linked to a digital document. There is also a difference between an ordinary digital or a qualified digital signature.

Ordinary digital signature

An ordinary digital signature is a signature that is linked to other electronic data, for example a document or e-mail. This way of signing is used to confirm the identity of the signer. Een example is a scanned handwritten signature.

Qualified digital signature

A qualified digital signature is a signature with a qualified certificate. Such a digital certificate is added to the file to be signed. There are special authorities that issue these certificates.   These signatures are legally equivalent to an ordinary signature.

Pay attention!

If you receive a digitally signed document, you must have the correct software to open it. For example

Acrobat Reader. This program checks the signature. If everything is in order, you will see that on your screen. Do you get an error message or warning? In that case, do not just trust the signatory, but check what is going on.   So make sure that the certificate is valid and not revoked and that you trust the signer.

The digital signature at Actief Werkt!

All necessary agreements and documents can be signed     without having to print them   .   This saves a lot of paper and works quickly. Our flex colleagues do not have to come especially for it.   They can sign the documents easily and at any time using the computer or mobile phone.

  • The digital signatures provide the following guarantees:
  • The identity of Actief Werkt!
  • The identity of the person signing
  • That the document has not been changed after it was signed.

To digitally sign documents,   Actief Werkt!   uses certificates. You can see such a certificate as the digital counterpart of a passport. These certificates are used to reveal the identity of the signer. The signature that   places on the flex colleague   is also set on the basis of a certificate. In combination with the telephone number of   the mobile phone, we know for sure that he or she is the one who signed the document   .
