How do I prepare for a job interview?

Preparing for a job interview: how do you do that?

You will be invited by the company as a result of your application and then the job interview will start. Exciting? We'll help you prepare for your job interview. With these 6 tips you will be well prepared for your interview and you will know, among other things, what kind of job interview questions you can expect.

Tip 1: Cover letter and the position

Prior to the job interview, you sent your cover letter and responded to a position. What did your cover letter say again and what exactly did the position entail? Always start with this when preparing for your job interview. The position also contained points that you as a person must meet. Think of a few examples for these profile points. Extra tip: use the STAR method !

Tip 2: read yourself well about the company

You can prepare yourself well for your job interview by reading carefully about the company. What exactly does the company do? Consider carefully whether you also fit into the company and why exactly. This comes in handy when answering the questions.

Recruiters and P&O employees can see through applicants who come for an interview unprepared. Make sure you read the website carefully and challenge yourself to write three good questions on paper.

Tip 3: The most frequently asked application question: tell us a bit about yourself

Preparing for a job interview is not complete without preparing for the question: 'Would you like to tell us something about yourself?' It is perhaps the most frequently asked question in a job interview. So prepare your pitch well.

Try to tell as much as possible what is relevant to the person sitting opposite you, such as education and work experience, where you are now in your career and what you are good at. Your interlocutors can determine from this whether you fit into the picture they have in mind. You don't have to keep this just for business. Feel free to tell us about your hobbies.

Tip 4: job interview questions

You can prepare well for your job interview by going through certain questions in advance. Some typical interview questions may come as no surprise. Think about: why do you want to work for this company? What are your strengths/weaknesses? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? And so on. There are of course countless other job interview questions that you can prepare. Read them once but don't overdo it. This way you always come across as spontaneous and credible.

Tip 5: Think about questions in advance that will impress you

The best way to be well prepared and come across is to ask things yourself. Are there things that are not in the job description, but that you would like to know? Write them down and present them to your interlocutors.

Try to find out everything about the position, so that you have a clear picture of the position after the interview. If you don't ask questions, you're missing out on an opportunity to impress. For example, find a detail in the website, ask for their vision. At the same time, you can of course take the opportunity to find out some facts, such as working hours and how lunch is arranged.

Tip 6: get your clothes and stuff ready

Another way you can prepare yourself for your job interview is to get your clothes and interview equipment ready. Of course it wouldn't be nice if you were short of time, or if you forgot something. Things you can have ready are: notepad and pen, mint, your resume, your cover letter and if necessary a reference list and portfolio.
